    Just goes to show you that even people who work the rails all the time can be caught off guard by the trains.

    No matter how big (or noisy) you think a train is, it can catch you quite by suprise. You always have to be watching out for the trains, since you won’t win in any contest with them.

    I myself almost got clipped once when I stuck my head out a door of a inspection car (on the siding), when a train passed by. It was after a very long day, and I let my guard down, and didn’t look (or listen) first. Luckly, it just woke me up. Something I won’t ever forget.

    Also, another reason trains blow their horns a lot around other equipment. Just in case someone is working around them.
